Survival & Resistance

Released

Dub master Adrian Sherwood’s resurgence following a depressed and relatively inactive 1990s began with 2003’s Never Trust a Hippy, and picked up with 2006’s Becoming a Cliché. Both were energetic, pinging with invention, ready to take over the world. But this, from 2012, is where he really showed he was back for the long haul. It’s an album of calm and confident dub reggae, with all the strangeness of his early records like Creation Rebel’s Starship Africa but an added clarity and lucidity. This is the sound of a master craftsman doing what he’s best at, but continuing to evolve.
