Synthesize the Soul: Astro-Atlantic Hypnotica From the Cape Verde Islands 1973-1988

There are so many compilations of vaguely danceable music from the Seventies that I cannot blame anyone for not tracking the best ones or even knowing what to look for. Synthesize the Soul collects fifteen years of music from the Cape Verde islands to the west of Senegal. The sounds fall between disco and zouk and go hard on the high-energy accordion and guitar. There’s a sparkle here that isn’t quite the same as anything around it.
