Yeezus

Released

Yeezus sounded like Kanye was just as bored with the radio as of the rest of us. “Black Skinhead” rides on martial drumming akin to Marilyn Manson’s “The Beautiful People,” with an indie-rock synth hook that recalls Nine Inch Nails. He repeatedly screams out punk rock-style on “I Am a God,” and Yeezus on a whole skews dark, pissed off and misogynistic. A rock spirit rebel also yells through “New Slaves” and “On Sight.” The spirit of ex-girlfriend Amber Rose haunts the Nina Simone-sampling “Blood on the Leaves” and “Guilt Trip.” His lyrical downslide also begins here, preventing Yeezus from quite rivaling his very best.
