LCD Soundsystem
Released
Arriving at the tail end of the dance-punk era, LCD Soundsystem took a lot of time releasing a full length debut album. It turned out to be worth the wait, delivering on the potential of the classic early singles (collected here on a second disc) that appeared during the three previous years. All the music history that bandleader James Murphy referenced in the hipster putdown disco of “Losing My Edge” – Krautrock, early hip-hop, house, dub – is synthesized into essential songs like “Too Much Love” and “Disco Infiltrator.” This was also one of the best produced albums of the rock era with perfectly compressed drums and buzzing analog synths approximating what a collaboration between Suicide and early-80s Prince might sound like.
