1974’s ‘Skin I’m In’ was released when the Chairmen of the Board had already commercially peaked but is arguably their finest album. Featuring musicians from the Parliament/Funkadelic camp, this is essentially a Parliament/Funkadelic album fronted by the Chairmen. The title track is a brooding, dark jam ruminating on racism while most of side 1 is taken up with a unique four-track psychedelic soul medley. Hammond organ, mellotron, wah-wah guitar, unearthly percussion breaks, Moog synth flourishes, it’s got it all. The album finishes on heavily delayed Moog synth crescendo in a perfect moment of psychedelic soul.
